Why Use NLWs F o r c e C o n t i n u u m MILITARY PRESENCE LETHAL FORCE Non-Lethal Options F o r c e C o n t i n u u m Deter Dissuade Defeat Not all situations require lethal force and some may not even allow lethal force to be used; like HA/DR, which is usually incompatible with the use of deadly force. In some situations, like HA/DR events, presence alone of uniformed personnel will stop unwanted activities, like looting. Sometimes more persuasion is needed, and sometimes nothing short of lethal force will work. But what options do you have between military presence and lethal force? That fuzzy area in the middle, where options are vague and results can be catastrophic, is what we’ll focus on over the next 2.5 days
