Yandex also operates in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Turkey. What does "Yandex" mean? A: Historically, "Yandex" is an acronym for "Yet Another indexer". The users suggested various versions of the word’s etymology. One of the exotic versions is that "Yan" syllable comes from the name of the white, "sunny" side of the Ying-Yang sign.

History background Yandex was created in 1993 as a department developing search technologies in CompTek International, a network and telecom equipment distributor in Russia. Four years later, in 1997 the Yandex web search service was launched and in 2000, Yandex became a standalone company.

Designer & Design concept The Yandex Saint Petersburg office was the first office designed by za bor architects for Yandex company. The original columns and work frames have been preserved. At the client’s request, za bor architects used a layout with individual rooms strung along a corridor. To soften the impression, the role of internal walls is played by glazed partition. Translucent green, yellow and orange coating has been used to add bright colors to the gray and white interior. In the work areas there are additional sound insulation ceilings Ecophon ― made of sound absorbing materials which are usually used in the interiors of the cinema halls. Yandex is a company that pays a great deal of attention to its employees. In the office there work about 250 people. There is a billiards table in the dinning room, a separate sports room and a library.
