Machines

What is a Machine? A machine is a device that changes a force Machines make work easier to do. They change the size of the force needed, the direction of a force, or the distance over which a force acts

What is a Machine? Example: A car jack makes it easier to lift up a part of a car. It aids you in increasing the force applied to the car

Simple Machines A simple machine is a very basic mechanical device Usually were invented or utilized in ancient times

Simple Machines There are six types of simple machines Lever Wheel and Axle Inclined Plane Wedge Screw Pulley

Lever A lever is a rigid bar that is free to move around at a fixed point They usually make lifting heavy objects a lot easier

Wheel and Axel Consists of at least one discs (wheel) connected by an axel

Inclined Plane An inclined plane is a slanted surface along which a force moves an object from one level of elevation to another

Wedges A v-shaped object that is usually used to break objects apart

Screw A screw is an inclined plane that is wrapped around a cylinder

Pulleys A pulley is a machine that consists of a rope that fits into a wheel Pulleys are used to make it easier to lift heavier objects

Compound Machine A compound machine is a machine that uses a combination of two or more simple machines that work together They can be relatively simple or extremely complex

Compound Machine Simple compound machines
