Introduction Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) with the concentration in Educational Sociology to enhance ways for positive interaction with children to progress through their education.

Background Graduated South Lakes High School in Reston. Member of the Virginia Youth Leadership Forum (YLF), a leadership training program for people with disAbilities. Alumni Staff of the Year Award in 2012 Graduated NOVA with Associates Degree in Childhood Education in May, 2013. Volunteer at Langston Hughes Middle School in their Boys on a New Direction (BOND) mentoring group.

Disciplines in my Concentration The two main disciplines for my BIS concentration are Education and Sociology. My purpose is to continue to create an equal opportunity in schools for children of all abilities Education classes will develop my facilitation in the classroom to build on childrens’ strengths. Education Discipline My Education discipline contains the elements that will help me inspire children to explore new ways to learn new skills. My Education classes will provide me with additional background to work effectively with children. I will familiarize myself with current legislation that regulates diversity in the learning environment.

Sociology Discipline My Sociology classes will provide me with: Concepts toward understanding changes in ethnic attitudes. Familiarizing myself with different cultural trends in schools. Ways to reach out to children and teachers with different backgrounds.

Interdisciplinary Themes Thesis from my disciplines for my 490 project. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, 7.6% of Hispanic high school student’s dropout before they graduate high school. (Ford, 2009) I will propose a research thesis on how to increase multicultural learning in classroom. Both child education and sociology has interdisciplinary principles An example might be: having classmates tell each other how they celebrate different holidays
