Creative Curriculum We Love Books One World World of Work

Supporting learning Many children will have the opportunity to work in small groups or individually throughout the year to support them in their learning TA support- working with individuals and small groups

Spelling and Timestables Big push by the government Children need to spell HFW and spelling list for year 1/2 and 3/4 Need to know all timetables by end of year 4

Standards Children have clear learning objectives for every lesson and the teacher marks the work according to this objective Children have short focused next steps to help them achieve their end of year target They are involved in assessing their performance and encouraged to work towards improving their skills

Literacy Home Learning Reading Really important to improve fluency and comprehension Daily if possible, from a range of materials to include fiction, poems, non-fiction. Share literature together. Comment in the home school diary

Home Learning This will be given out once a week It will give the children an opportunity to either practise a skill they have been learning Or carry out an investigation In addition, children need to learn to recall times tables and carry out quick mental calculations

How can you help your child at home? Establish routines: Provide a quiet place for home learning away from the TV and siblings and at a table Encourage them to be physically active, eat well and sleep! Read aloud with your children – ask them questions about what has been read [opinion + why] Support Home Learning tasks on a regular basis – little and often if possible Encourage them to tackle tasks independently at first – then offer support e.g. ‘Let’s look at the example together’ Be Practical- hands on learning is best!

At home . . . Read anything! Library, book club, magazines, games instructions, newspapers, signs etc Write for a purpose: Postcards, shopping lists, thank you letters, web page etc Use Maths: Cook, look for patterns, shopping, set video etc Science: notice the world , point out clouds, weather patterns, plants and seeds, landforms etc

Assessment Assessment during lessons Half termly to track progress
