Barley Fields Primary School Welcomes you to our Foundation Stage Parents Meeting June 2013

The Foundation Stage at Barley Fields Nursery 78 places. Our Foundation Stage operates as a distinct key stage within the school. Staff in Nursery and Reception Teams work very closely together and deliver a similarly themed curriculum.

Staffing 2012/13 Nursery Team Miss McCabe Mrs McGee Mrs Williams Mrs Robson

Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum A curriculum designed specifically for children from birth to 5 years of age which covers seven key areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development Communication and Language Physical Development Literacy Mathematics Understanding the World Expressive Arts and Design

Classroom provision and organisation within each phase is very similar, although it differs in structure and formality as children progress through the stage. Assessment of progress is completed regularly and is based on observation. Similar methods of attainment and progress tracking are employed in Nursery and Reception.

Nursery

Transition into nursery A pre-nursery visit can be made by appointment with nursery staff. Children can start nursery from age 3 years. Induction arrangements for entry/length of session will be flexible and can be tailored to the needs of the individual. All children receive fruit and milk/water during their nursery session. Close links with Ryandale Playgroup to offer wraparound care.

Once the nursery door is closed, late entry to school is through the main school office only. Children are not allowed to bring toys or sweets into school. No jewellery or watches to be worn.

All children MUST be collected by a familiar/named adult (over 16 years of age). Children will be assembled in the quiet room at the end of a session and will be sent out under direct teacher supervision – please be patient as this can take a little while! Once a child has been sent out from the quiet room parents are responsible for collecting coats and other belongings prior to leaving nursery. Please do not allow your child, or other children you may have with you, to access any of the stationary learning areas – indoor and outdoor.

Key Person Children are grouped into smaller groups overseen by one member of Nursery staff, this will be your child’s key person. You will be informed of your child’s key person when in September. Your child’s key person will support your child settling into Nursery and keep you updated on your child’s progress and development during Parent’s Evenings.

Nursery Uniform Grey trousers, pinafore, skirt Red checked dress (Summer Term) White polo shirt Nursery school cardigan/jumper Black school shoes (preferably with velcro fastening) Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

If your child wears earrings please ensure these are removed on PE days. Please keep encouraging your child to dress independently at home.

Outdoor Learning

Its Learning In September all Nursery children will be issued with their own password to access our learning platform. The learning platform allows you to keep up-to-date with Nursery events and current topics.

Extended school activity As part of our extra curricular programme nursery children have opportunity to engage in a gymnastics club which operates in blocks of 5 sessions on a Wednesday lunchtime. The focus is on development movement and gymnastics through stories and songs. This is operated by Carmen Neave – a local gymnastic coach. Children attend alongside their parents for a 1 hour session. It cost £15.50 for a 5 week course and is available to all nursery children.

School uniform purchase We have a small range of uniform and associated equipment in stock for immediate purchase. Orders for additional uniform can be made at the school office. Parents may try uniform on for size and return any unworn items if they are unsuitable.

Personal Property Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s full name… even … shoes! … coats, hats, gloves, scarves, caps … lunchboxes, book bags

Please remember… The end of the nursery session is the best time to talk to the teacher. Children should not bring valuables, toys, sweets or jewellery to school.

Extended school services Ryandale Playgroup – daytime wrap around care for 2-4 years. Barley Fields Children's Club - before and after school provision for 3 – 11 year olds. * if this provision is required we can put you in touch with them after the meeting
