Last week, we read and listened to stories that were biographies Last week, we read and listened to stories that were biographies. A biography is the story of someone’s life that is written by someone else. This week we will be reading stories that are autobiographies. An autobiography is a story that an author writes about him or her self.

As you listen to today’s read- aloud, listen for the parts of an autobiography: the author shares her own life story or experiences. the author writes in the first- person voice, referring to herself as “I”.

Who is the author addressing in this text? How can you tell?

A thistle is a prickly plant with a thorny flower.

How did Mei help the author?

What are some lessons that a listener could learn from the author’s friendship with Mei? What did you learn about the author’s first friend?

Fluency Good readers read aloud with appropriate speed so that listeners can easily follow the flow of Information in the text. Listen as I read the following story aloud:

This time, echo read each sentence after me. Be sure to read at an appropriate speed.

Compare and Contrast Good readers recognize comparisons and contrasts in text. The text may compare and contrast characters, settings, and events.

Turn to page 108 in your student textbook.

Which area of the diagram would and, also, and too go in? Which area woud although, while, and but go in?

Comprehension Strategy: When you are trying to answer a question, you should think about the kind of information the question is asking for and know where to look to find the answer. When you do this, you are using the QAR, or Question Answer Relationship strategy. There are 4 kinds of question answer relationships: Right There On Your Own Think and Search Author and You

We need a volunteer to read aloud the next passage.
