Student PPTs Competition Models

Competition Models Research Presentation Team Competition By Pat Hayden

What Is Team Competition? Team competition is when one group of players tries to defect another group of players. Players work together in a team to achieve a common goal.

Examples (Physical Games) One example of a game consisting of team competition is Football. Football usually has two teams defending their side of the field while trying to score on the opposing teams side of the field.

Examples (Video Games) One example of a video game with team competition is Call of Duty. CoD typical has two teams face off against each other, trying to complete a certain goal before the other team does. Other games that include team competition are Destiny, Battle Field and Halo and many more.

Reasons This Is Beneficial In Creating Player Engagement Reason One is that it gets the other players talking to each other to communicate a battle plan and strategize their next move. Reason Two is that it teaches players to cooperate with each other. Players will realize they can’t accomplish their task alone and work with the other player. Reason Three is that you can get more done in a shorter amount of time. Each player can have specific job assigned and get more work done.

How Can This Be Used In A RPG There can be specific quest, dungeons etc. that may require player to work as a team. Some RPG games, such as World of Warcraft and Trove allow players to join or form a guild to help other player and work together.

Cooperative play VS. game By Jarell Medina

Competition model and description In the multiplayer versus game model, a team of players works together to defeat the game. The players are competing against the game.

Examples of Physical Games 1. Formation: Entire class in a large circle 2. Starting with the instructor, hold the tennis ball; say your name plus an appropriate adjective i.e. “Super Susan” then advances the ball to the next person. 3. The next person repeats the process until all in the circle have held the ball and said their name and adjective out loud. 4. The instructor begins again by saying his/her name out loud. 5. Person # 2 says the instructors name and adjective plus his/her name and adjective. Repeat until everyone in the circle has gone. Toss- A –Name Game

1. Formation: Group sitting in a circle, knee to knee 1. Formation: Group sitting in a circle, knee to knee. Have each person remove a sneaker and sit on it 2. The instructor starts by sitting in the middle of the circle. He/she may ask any question beginning with the words, “have you ever.” for example; have you ever climbed a tree. Have you ever been to Disney World? Have you ever: 3. Now, all those students who (on their honor) internally answer yes must move to another spot in the circle and sit on someone else’s sneaker. 4. Of course, the instructor (or whoever is in the middle) also heads for the vacant sneaker, thus leaving open the middle spot for the “odd” person out. He/she then begins the cycle anew another question. Variations: Students may ask, “Have you ever… question if they believe that they have done something that no one else in the group has done. Use poly spots instead of sneakers.

: Adirondack Jack and Jill 1. Formation: One large circle, people about an arm length apart. 4. The Adirondack Jack or Jill may pose a directive or ask a question (as long as the question is appropriate and deemed so by the instructor. 2. After the group is in the beginning formation, the instructor stands in the center of the circle. 3. The instructor says, Adirondack Jack (or Jill) says that anyone wearing a watch must move to another spot! At this time, all participants wearing watches must move to the center spot, touch it and then move to another free spot on the floor. Meanwhile, the instructor also finds a free spot and stands on it. This means one of the participants will end up on the center spot and he/she becomes the Adirondack Jack or Jill.

Examples of Video Games In Portal 2 two of players take control of either Atlas or P- Body using their portal guns to traverse through the set of test chambers. Run n Gun games like Contra where one or two players have to team to beat the game.

Benefits -A game might show each player’s skill level Socialization Can be able to share knowledge to each other

Co-op in RPGs The Popular MMO World of Warcraft players can join or create guilds in order to complete quests.

Competition Models Research Presentation By: Dorean McCullough 12/14/16

The Competition model and description player versus player A player versus player model is a direct competition between one player and another. The players are not competing against the game. The game becomes a vehicle for the competition between human players.

Examples of physical games using that model Some examples of physical games using the model like checkers and chess, Uno, and connect 4

Example of video games using the model Some examples of video games using the model like Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, Halo 5, Star Wars Battlefront, NBA 2K 17 and Madden 17

Specific reasons Its more fun to play to against another player – its different every time you play. This model is beneficial in creating player engagement because it makes it more challenging

Explanation of using RPG Player against player go on separate quests both trying to win the game.

Competition Models: Cooperative Play Versus Game By Kyle Spiegel

Cooperative Play Versus Game Definition: A team of players works together to defeat the game. The players are competing against the game. However, unlike the multiplayer versus game model, the players must work together to defeat the game. Ewach player is not on his or her own.

Physical Games that use the model Tug of War- A game in which two teams try to pull a long rope to the respective team’s side. Basketball- A sport played in two teams up to five people and they try to get the ball in the hoop

Video Games that use this model Rocket League-A sports game involving cars and soccer. Teams of four players can compete. Overwatch-Another competitive game where teams of six battle with a huge roster of characters in different maps to take control of a payload or maintain a control point. World of Warcraft (WoW)- An action adventure game where players can go on quests alone or with other friends to explore dungeons and fight enemies to gain loot and other rewards.

Why does this model beneficial to create player engagement? Helps establish teamwork among individuals and ensure they cooperate to achieve one goal. Teaches lessons like to strategize and not go in guns blazing into situations, but to take your time and come up with a plan. Team play can spark socialization and not make someone feel isolated and alone. This can promote more socialization among kids and teenagers.

How this model can be utilized in an RPG game environment? This model can be used in an RPG game environment by providing quests and story quest lines where players can team up with others and go on side quests to team up and fight monsters and explore vast dungeons to find an ultimate reward at the end of their journey.
