PAVEMENT PRESERVATION ON A SMALL SCALE BUDGET A CASE STUDY OF WHAT ONE TOWNSHIP DOES TO PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN THEIR STREETS ON A YEARLY BASES Presented by W. Pierre Peltier GM Sales/Marketing/Business Development Strawser Construction Inc.

PAVEMENT PRESERVATION ON A SMALL SCALE BUDGET MIAMI TOWNSHIP

PAVEMENT PRESERVATION ON A SMALL SCALE BUDGET Miami Township is located in Hamilton County, Ohio Hamilton County Miami TWP. OHIO

HISTORY Miami Township was founded in 1791. It’s name is derived from the Great Miami River, which is one of it’s boundaries. The Township is comprised of 21 square miles in the southwestern tip of the state of Ohio. Miami Township is an interesting combination of hills and valleys bordered on two sides by the Ohio and Great Miami Rivers. The Tills that adorn the hilltops were for the most part left by the Illinoisian Glacier which visited us about 350,000 thousand years ago. This was the one that so drastically changed the drainage patterns of the Ohio and Great Miami Rivers. Later, about 100,000 years ago the Wisconsin Glacier headed south, stopping just short of Miami Township, but providing us with great deposits of gravel, now found in the river valleys. The gravels were sorted and layered by the outwash as the ice sheets retreated.

FACTS As of 2014, Miami township (Hamilton County’s) population is 15,600 people. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of 15.12 percent. The median home cost in Miami township is $85,100. Home appreciation the last year has been 6.90 percent. Compared to the rest of the country, Miami township’s cost of living is 17.70 percent lower than the U.S. average. Miami township public schools spend $15,007 per student. The average school expenditure in the U.S. is $12,435. There are about 15.8 students per teacher in Miami township. The unemployment rate is 4.8 percent compared to the national average of 6 percent.
