Practice “Rounds of Speech Delivery” Part 2: Practice “Rounds of Speech Delivery”

Time to Practice Round 1 Silently read through the speech you have drafted. Do not skim over any words. Focus: Try to catch any spelling/ grammar errors- is there a section of your speech that needs work? Leave yourself notes when you are done reading  (you may add marks for pauses as well)

Round 2 Speed read your speech Silently read your speech as quickly as possible WITHOUT skipping any words

Round 3 Find a spot facing any wall in the room. When I say “GO” whisper your speech aloud as I time you. You may read directly from your speech the entire time. add pauses don’t worry about eye contact/gestures yet

Round 4 When I say “GO,” pretend you are delivering your speech in front of an audience Practice looking up from your speech/using hand gestures

TIP: Stand Up Straight Stand with your feet apart and your shoulders squared, facing the audience. Place yourself in the middle of the speaking area, not on one side. Do not lean up against ANYTHING! A relaxed, straight posture will convey confidence and authority to your audience.

Round 5 When I say “GO,” pretend you are REALLY delivering your speech in front of an audience REMINDERS: Eye contact/ Hand gestures NEW: Think about your facial expressions AND posture (stand up straight- no leaning)

Final Tip: Stay away from “filler words” uhm, like, such as, well, yeahhhh and…
