Trends and Elements of Robbery Robbery is a personal crime involving face-to-face confrontation between the victim and perpetrator. Individuals are the most common targets of robbers. Banks, gas stations, convenience stores, and other businesses are the second most common targets.

Use of Evidence and Witnesses Separate and interview witnesses about the events of the robbery as well as suspects. Due to nature of scene, expect differences in interpretation of what happened. Use leading questions to gather specific information.

Chapter Summary Robbery is a personal crime and involves face-to-face contact between the victim and offender with the primary motivation connected to obtaining money. Robbery follows one of five patterns. continued on next slide

Chapter Summary The initial responsibility of the first officer to respond to a robbery is to arrive at the scene as quickly and safely as possible. When responding to calls in which the robbers have already left the scene, officers must follow proper investigative procedures. continued on next slide

Chapter Summary Robbery methods are as novel and varied as the people who commit them, and methods of operation (MOs) may help identify the perpetrator and ultimately prove a case. The crime scene should be processed after physical evidence has been identified.
