Year 5 / 6 Curriculum Newsletter Discovery Over the coming weeks we will be following these units of work: Geography -‘The holiday show’, Science – ‘Go with the Flow’. In Geography, we’ll be finding out: About a tourist attraction in our local area. About the role of our local Tourist Information Centre. How maps can give us tourist information. About tourism and its impact on regions, countries and cultures. How we can create an eco-friendly, sustainable holiday resort. In Technology, we’ll be finding out about: How to evaluate materials used to market holidays. Also, how to create our own marketing materials to sell a holiday. In History, we’ll be finding out about: How to create a history tour of our local area/host country. In Music, we’ll be finding out: About music from different countries around the world. In International Education, we’ll be finding out: What makes a good global traveller. How to create a welcome pack for our school/local area. English Our English this term will be linked to our Discovery unit and we will learn how to write effective: Discussion texts. Persuasive texts. Whilst learning about these genres, we will focus on the writing skills required in year 5 & 6. During Spring Term, we will focus on sets of tricky words from the Y5 & 6 curriculum. There will be a weekly test. Year 5 / 6 Curriculum Newsletter Term 3 - 2015 Computing In Computing, the children will be learning about videoing and using the relevant equipment and software. Religious Education : In RE we’ll be: Learning about Judaism. PSHE In PSHE we will be learning about looking forward and our future. PE We will be developing gym skills and improving our dancing. Children will work individually, in partners and teams. The children will develop movement and coordination; thinking about moving to music and the shapes that can be made with our bodies. Maths This term we will be learning about: Negative numbers, and solving problems involving numbers. Addition and subtraction of large numbers and money. Adding and subtracting fractions. Reflections and translations. Mass. Forces: In Science, we’ll be finding out: • How a ball flies through the air • How different objects fall • What gravity is and how it pulls on objects • How air resistance affects moving objects • How water pushes up on floating objects • Why some objects float and others sink In Technology, we’ll be finding out: How to make a sailing boat or flying paper plane  In Music, we’ll be finding out: • How to play our homemade instruments In International, we’ll be finding out: • About sound and light pollution
