The new FFDB – an outlook Background information FFDB has been designed in 2004? and has been available to the public since then. No development work has been done on the system since. NIWA has obtained TFBIS funding to upgrade the FFDB database and information delivery mechanisms. The NIWA Centre for Environmental Information supports the FFDB and has worked over the past year to upgrade FFDB. http://www.niwa.co.nz/our-science/ei Purpose of this document is to provide stakeholders with information about the intended changes and invite comments. Comments can be directed to dave.rowe@niwa.co.nz and http://dataversity.org.nz/groups/fbis, topic “new ffdb”

The new FFDB – an outlook Envisaged new FFDB – main changes Consolidated FFDB data entry format – to be defined with stakeholders. New web-based FFDB data ingest system – prototype developed, stakeholder response sought. New FFDB web portal, modern (‘google style’) webmap, intuitive search, etc... New / updated NZ FF key available on FFDB Portal. New updated “FF factsheets” to replace old FF Atlas.

The new FFDB – an outlook Change of FFDB data entry format. Do we need all fields? Fields can be replaced by lookups (GIS)? Do we need additional fields for a sampling effort? What is the minimal requirement for a national FF monitoring Protocol?

The new FFDB – an outlook Envisaged new FFDB web-based ingest. Auto lookups as much as possible Login / credentials users /admin, etc. Integrated QA system …
