VCE Computing: Informatics School-assessed Task (SAT) Workshop 22nd February 2016 Judy Zuccon zucconja@aquinas.vic.edu.au

VCE Units 3 & 4 Informatics Overview RDBMS and User Flow Diagram 30% study score Data analytics: complex data, confirm or refute hypothesis, project plan Data analytics: present findings through MMOS and evaluation Compare Information management strategies of two organisations http://deecddigipubs2014.businesscatalyst.com/vcaa/vce-computing/vce-computing-units-3-and-4-informatics

What is a School-assessed Task (SAT)? An extended task where products are produced and assessed Student centred, Student led, Student driven Not new to VCE; Arts and Technology A set of criteria for the award of scores is published each year by the VCAA Detailed descriptors of levels of performance for each criterion (rubric) published by VCAA The criteria and descriptors are mandated and must be used when making assessment judgments Involves progressive authentication by the teacher

Informatics focus – data, information and systems VCE Units 3 & 4 Informatics Overview Ref: Paula Christophersen EL_Overview_Informatics.pptx

Software tools and functions Unit 3 Outcome 2: Software tools that students are required to use, but not required to study : Appropriate tool for documenting project plans Software tools to capture, store, prepare and manipulate data (SD p. 28) Unit 4 Outcome 1: Software tool that students are required to study and use: Software tools to manipulate data for creating a multimodal online solution Software tool that students are required to use, but not required to study : Appropriate tools for documenting project plans (SD p. 34) Unit 4: Multimodal online solution Apply functions that provide the ability to: Import/enter, edit and format content Structure screen layout Create links Provide navigation Create buttons Create tags (alt tags) Incorporate images (still/moving), text and sound http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Pages/vce/studies/computing/informatics.aspx

SAT Assessment Criteria Unit 3 Outcome 2 1. Depth of understanding of formation of a hypothesis and coherence of a conclusion 2. Skills in acquiring, validating and referencing data 3. Skills in organising, manipulating and securing data and information 4. Depth of understanding of project management concepts and processes Unit 4 Outcome 1 5. Skills in generating design ideas and designing preferred solutions 6. Skills in communicating information to educate a world-wide audience through a multimodal online solution 7. Skills in technically developing a multimodal online solution that confirms or refutes a hypothesis 8. Understanding of strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of a multimodal solution and assessing the effectiveness of the project plan in monitoring progress http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/vce/computing/Informatics_SBA.pdf (Page 12)

School-assessed Task Criteria 1 - 4

Project Management Gantt charts Concepts Processes

Criterion 4: Project Management All stages of the Problem-solving Methodology (U3O2 and U4O1) Gantt chart must be produced using software however, students must not be assessed on software skills. PM Concepts milestones and dependencies PM Processes tasks, sequencing, resources, time Scheduling and milestones determined by the student. Teacher set deadlines and school events need to be included. Adjustments to the project plan should be recorded, for example in a project plan, because need to be referred to in Criterion 8 (SD p. 28, 30, 31, 38; Administrative information p. 3)

Hypothesis, Scope, Constraints C1 Part 1 Acquire, Validate, Reference complex data sets C2 Organise, Manipulate, Secure the data and information C3 Interpret manipulated datasets, Identify findings, Draw a conclusion C1 Part 2 Unit 3 Outcome 2 SAT Part 1 Project Management C4
