2nd Laboratory Center of Ioannina

General Information The 2nd Laboratory Center of Ioannina (hereinafter 2EK) is an independent school unit of the Greek Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, operating under its own autonomous administration .

Goal It’s goal is the appropriate educational coverage of the laboratory lessons taking place in the adjacent Vocational High Schools (EPAL), School Laboratory Centers (SEK) and Vocational Training Institutes (IEK) of its region, in the fields of Information Science, Agronomy, Food and Environment, Health and Welfare, and Economics and Management. We aim at a faster and more integrated information of our students, their parents, the teaching staff, as well as the graduates and the active entrepreneurs of our region.

During the current academic year (2016-2017), 39 classes run in the 2EK of Ioannina, counting 440 students coming from the following cooperating school units: 2nd Vocational Evening High School of Ioannina 3rd Vocational High School of Ioannina 6th Vocational High School of Ioannina Junior High School and High School for Students with Special Abilities of Ioannina School Laboratory Center of Ioannina Vocational Training Institute of Ioannina

Classes during 2016-2017 ac. year The 39 classes of the 2EK correspond to departments of various fields and specializations, as follows: 1for Floriculture and Landscape Architecture Specialists 1for Physiotherapist Assistants 1for Pharmacist Assistants 1for IT Applications Specialists 1for Nurse Assistants 2 for Aesthetics 1for Agriculture Specialists 1for Tourism Economics and Management Employees 2 for Food and Drink Technology Specialists 2 for Animal Production Specialists 1for Nursery Teacher Assistants 4 for Agronomy, Food and Environment 2 for Software Application Specialists 2 for Hairdressing 2 for Medical and Biological Laboratory Assistants 10 for Health and Welfare 1for Information Science 4for Management and Economics The 2EK operates daily in 3 shifts (morning, afternoon and evening), from 08:15 to 22:20, in order to cover the numerous laboratory classes of the cooperating school units.

Infrastructures and Facilities The 2nd SEK of Ioannina is a 2 roof building (grounding floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor) dating back to the 1970s and consists of: 18 laboratories destined for the fields of Agronomy, Food and Environment, Information Science, Health and Welfare, Management and Economics, 2 offices and 4 ancillary  rooms. The building is energy-enhanced, the rooms are functional and the exterior space meets the needs of the everyday school life of the students and the teaching staff.

The equipment and the available means of the 2EK suffice for the effective implementation of the educational program provided for by the Ministry of Education. Moreover, the room and the equipment of the administration office of the 2EK meet the working needs of the staff.

Human resources The administration department of the 2SEK consists of: a director, a deputy director, 3 field managers, and 5 laboratory managers of different fields.

Moreover, an association of educators of different specializations is operating within the 2EK. This association consists of: 2 Aesthetics specialists 2 Nursery Teachers 6 Agronomists 1 Forestry Specialist 2 Business Management specialist 1 Material technology specialist 1 Animal Production specialist  1 Medical Laboratories specialist 1 Doctor 1: Fine Arts specialist 2: Hairdressing specialists 1: Obstetrics specialist 1: Law specialist  6: Nurses 5: Dentists 4: Economists 4: Information Science specialists 1: Food, Nutrition, Wine and Drink Technology specialist 1: Surveyor 2: Tourism Business specialists 1: Physiotherapy specialist 2: Plant Production specialists

The experience of the educational staff of the 2EK suffices for the implementation of the educational program provided for by the Greek Ministry of Education, as well as for the support of innovative educational activities and Erasmus+ activities since: the teaching experience of the majority of the educators exceeds 10 years, all of them have professional teaching skills, 30% of them have extra university degrees, while 20% have extra skills (postgraduate, doctoral studies).

Vision According to the last self-evaluation of the 2EK, it’s goal is to provide high quality laboratory education that meets not only the requirements of each student, but also the modern needs of the Greek Professional Education. More specifically, it’s goals are stated as follows:

The exploitation of the available means and resources of the laboratories. The educational exploitation of ICT during the teaching process. The continuously improving laboratory education provided to the students. The improvement of the social development and the professional adaptation of the students, through carefully designed educational visits to companies and other social or professional bodies.

The ability of providing informative and educational visits to other school units of our Center, aiming to the implementation of in- school informative activities, of demonstration and presentation of laboratory activities. The development of social and cooperative action of our students, at the same time of their laboratory education, in social volunteering such as the planting of florescent plants, the offering of goods to the “social grocery” of the municipality of Ioannina etc.

The continuous and uninterrupted meeting of the requirements of the school and educational units concerning laboratory support. The secure accessibility and security of the students to all the premises of the school unit. The smooth, reliable and transparent administrative operation of the 2EK.
