Sirius star By: Lauren Poirier

Introduction: The Sirius star is actually 2 stars with one giant star and one dwarf star. It was first discovered by German astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm. In old Greek the name Sirius is “sparkling” because it is the brightest star from Earth. It is also the closest star to the Earth.

Astronomical data The Sirius has a radius of 1.7 times of the Sun. It is about 20 times the Earth’s distance from the Sun. The Sirius star is 8.7 light years away from the Sun. It is a blue-white star which is 24.7 times luminous of the Sun.

Surface Data It has a gravity of 350,000 stronger than the Earth. It has a temperature of 9,800 kelvins. The most near by thing it has is the Earth.

Scientific Explorations I could not find any research about it but there are lots of myths like in a tribe in Mali West Africa, they believe that there is many mythical creatures that like on Sirius B.

Mission Badge Sirius Star

Fun facts It is also call the “Dog Star” in Greek The ancient Egyptians knew it as the Sothis and they believed that it caused the floods of the Nile river.
