Syria The Urban Yeti’s Ben Green Period 7

Syria Syria is located in the middle east and is has a coast on the mediterranean sea.

Syria It all started on January 26th, 2011. The protesters want the current president Bashar al-Assad to step down and the Baath Party to allow other political parties power.

Protesting The protesters have are mainly 20-50 year old men. Various protests taking form in marches, hunger strikes, and vandalism of government property.

Mass Protests in Syria

The Government The Syrian government has taken actions as far as putting tanks in the streets and using snipers to get people off the streets. Water and electricity has been shut of in some areas and military forces have begun to confiscate flour in food. About 3,000 civilians have been killed so far.

Similarities The Syrian revolution and the American revolution are similar in a few ways. 1. Both upset with how they are being ruled. 2. Protestors army can be compared ot that of the militia. 3. There are both loyalists and patriots

Differences So far… 1. The Syrian revolution has not become a full scale uprising like the revolution was. 2. While the Americans just wanted independence, the Syrians want a new president and different style of government.
