College and Career ready generation Destination 2018 Lubbock ISD

Destination 2018 college prep program available this summer at each high school campus for rising seniors to prepare for the college admissions process.

Destination 2018 overview Date: June 5-15, 2017 (Monday- Thursday only) - 8 days Times: Two half day sessions (morning (8-12) or afternoon (1-5) session Locations and transportation: LISD High Schools Transportation: Students may use transportation provided for the regular summer school schedule (Provided from student’s home middle school campus) or provide their own to and from session daily. Grade level: For rising seniors Cost: Free  Registration: Late March or Early April (limited to 50 students per campus- 25 per session)

Topics Include Goal setting/interest inventory How college admission decisions are made Overview of SAT, ACT and TSIA Writing a college essay Completion of Apply TX/common application Creating an activity resume Request for recommendation letter Virtual college visits/ online resources

Topics Include Financial Aid: FAFSA Application and Password Scholarships 2-year college: Junior College and Community College, 4-year college, and technical school Options SAT/ACT prep…test taking strategies College Majors/ degree plans Time management and study skills Digital portfolio Big Future Overview of LISD High School to Higher Education Transition Guide

Students will walk away with Results of interest inventory Selection of possible colleges/majors Completed college essay Personalized request for recommendation letter Activity resume List of campuses that fit their needs and questions to ask on campus visits Apply Texas application completed and ready to be submitted Information about scholarships and financial aid
