March 21st & 22nd Artist: Shepard Fairey Title: Duality of Humanity 3 Date: 2008 Medium: silk screen print IF: The title “The Duality of Humanity,” is inspired by the peace-sign wearing US soldiers of Vietnam. Fairey sees a strong parallel between the Vietnam war and the Iraq war. He says that this piece addresses  the “human struggle between good and bad, hope and fear”. 

March 23rd & 24th Artist- Michelangelo Title- The Creation of Adam Date- 1511 Medium- Fresco (paint applied to plaster) IF: The Creation of Adam is part of a larger mural depicting 9 different Bible stories, all from the Book of Genesis, which are painted on the ceiling of The Sistine Chapel in Vatican City.

March 27th & 28th Artist: Andy Warhol Title: Campbell's Onion Soup Box Date: 1986 Genre: pop-art IF: Pop art was an experimental form of art that involved using things & images from pop culture. Warhol, would become famous as the “Pope of Pop”.

March 29th & 30th Artist- Edgar Degas Title- The Dance Class Date- 1873-1876 Medium- Oil on Canvas IF: Degas is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism although he rejected the term, and preferred to be called a realist.

March 31st & April 3rd Artist: Jackson Pollock Title: Cathedral Date: 1947 Medium: enamel on canvas IF: Deemed the “greatest painter alive” during his lifetime, Pollock was an American painter who was a major abstract expressionist artist in the 20th century.

April 4th & 5th Artist-Shepard Fairey Title- Public Enemy Date- 2008 Medium-screen print IF: Public Enemy is Fairey’s favorite, and in his opinion, the most important hip hop group of all time. Public Enemy have continued to tour and put out great records for the last twenty years. Chuck D, the group’s founder is an author, activist, and lecturer as well. Public Enemy has been a huge inspiration for Fairey.

April 6th & 7th Artist- Roy Lichtenstein Title- World’s Fair Mural Date- 1964 Medium- oil, magna on wood IF: Lichtenstein became a leading figure of the new Pop Art movement. Inspired by advertisements and comic strips, his bright, graphic works parodied American popular culture and the art world itself. 

April 10th & 11th Artist- Jean‑Michel Basquiat Title- Undiscovered Genius of the MS Delta Date- 1983 Medium- crayon, paper & canvas IF: Although Basquiat was a successful artist, he became addicted to heroin, and after the death of his friend Andy Warhol in 1987, his addiction became worse. He became increasingly isolated, and died of a heroin overdose in 1988.

April 12th & 13th Artist- Claes Oldenburg Title- Dropped Cone Date- 2001 Medium- installation IF: Oldenburg is an American sculptor, best known for his public art installations typically featuring very large replicas of everyday objects.

April 18th & 19th Artist: Julian Beever Medium: chalk on pavement Title: Swimming Pool in The Street Date: 2012 IF: Beever is known all over the world for his pavement drawings, especially his 3D illusions, drawn in a special distortion to create an impression of 3D when seen from one particular viewpoint.
