Dry Cell Batteries Dry cell batteries are not actually dry The electrolyte is a paste instead of a liquid
Dry cells are more convenient to work with As current flows through a bulb the chemical energy stored in the battery becomes light and heat energy. When all available chemical energy has been converted to other forms of energy the battery is dead.
Rechargeable batteries can be reused A battery charger runs a current backward through the battery and changes electrical energy to chemical energy which is stored in the battery.
This cycle of charging and discharging does not continue indefinitely because some gases escape the cell and the cells contain impurities. Rechargeable batteries eventually have to be replaced.
