Rachael Sykes, Jake Deffibaugh, Kyle Emerson, Ayagoz Abdrakhmanova The Bamboozle Cart Rachael Sykes, Jake Deffibaugh, Kyle Emerson, Ayagoz Abdrakhmanova Abstract There are parts the world that are impoverished compared to certain parts of the free world. These parts of the world are constantly trying to look for better and cheaper ways to sell their goods at market. These people depend on the good they sell as large part of their income. We are charged with the task of designing a cheaper, more portable, and easier to use cart that these people can use to sell their merchandise. To accomplish this we did research on our selected area and then collaborated as a team on what we wanted to implement into our final design. Our final design resulted in a product that met and exceed the requirements that were presented to us. Weighted Hierarchal Customer Needs List Cost (0.44, 0.44) 1.1 Material Costs (0.53, 0.23) 1.2 Assembly Costs (0.16, 0.07) 1.3 Availability of Material (0.31, 0.14) 1.3.1 Materials are readily available (0.22, 0.068) 1.3.2 Obtainable resources (0.55, 0.17) 1.3.3 Cost effective assembly (0.23, 0.071) Usability (0.20, 0.20) 2.1 Easy to assemble (0.67, 0.134) 2.2 Space to place all products (0.33, 0.066) F.1 Carry all market products Portability (0.21, 0.21) 3.1 Attachment to bicycle (0.21, 0.21) Sustainability (0.05, 0.05) 4.1 Long-lasting design (0.33, 0.017) 4.2 Be able to withstand wear and tear (0.67, 0.034) Size (0.10, 0.10) 5.1 Products can fit in attachment (0.25, 0.025) 5.2 Transportation by bike is possible and safe (0.75, 0.075) Map of Kenya Final Design Figure 2: Folded out table and cabinet Figure 1: Cart Structure Conclusions We have successfully designed and created a cart that makes transporting goods by bike easier and more efficient. The cart easily attaches to any bike and has capabilities to overcome the unpredictable terrain. Included with the cart is a fold out table display complete with a cabinet for storing goods. Our finished design simplifies the selling of these goods in the tourist market of Kenya. The final design is made of cheap and lightweight bamboo that is readily available in the targeted country. Even with the constraints applied to us, we were able to fit the needs of the customer effectively.
