Higley High Graduation Requirements 3 credits

AZ University Admissions Requirements (ASU, UA, NAU) You will be offered admission if you have a 3.0 or higher core GPA*, rank in the top quarter (25%), and have no deficiencies in the required college preparatory courses.   You will be considered for admission if you have a 2.5 core GPA*, rank in the second quarter (26-50%), and have no more than one deficiency in any two areas in the college preparatory courses. *GPA is based on a 4.0 (unweighted) scale and is calculated using only the 16 core courses required. Academic Competency Requirements A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for each subject area. Deficiencies cannot be in the same core subject area or a combination of Math and Lab Science. In some cases, ACT or SAT scores may be used to satisfy competencies. Some university programs may require additional information and/or admission requirements as noted on their individual requirements pages. Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) Policy 2/121: http://admissions.arizona.edu/how-to-apply/abor-course-competencies

Course Selection Considerations Current 9th Graders* Current 10th Graders Current 11th Graders Required core classes: English 10 English 11 English 12 Math Math* Science US Govt/Economics World History & Geography American/Arizona History On target: 6 credits earned On target: 12 credits earned On target: 18 credits earned Seminary students need to take A hour if the credit is needed to meet graduation requirements. Seniors must be enrolled in 4 credit-bearing classes. *It is strongly recommended that students take math during their senior year. Juniors/Seniors attending EVIT must take classes A hour through 3rd hour to account for core credit. EVIT will take up 4th hour through 6th hour.

AP/Honors/Dual Enrollment Courses Exceed state content standards and expectations Often requires summer work, rigorous testing, individual/ group projects, presentations, and a higher expectation for classroom participation and discussion Highly recommended to take an accelerated, Pre-AP or Honors course prior to taking an AP course, although not required Recommended that a grade of C or better is earned in the pre-requisite course Not recommended if a student struggles in a traditional course Requirement: Students are required to complete a High School Academic Agreement to enroll in AP, Honors and/or Dual Enrollment courses. Agreements will be available in the Counseling Office AP/Honors Night – Tuesday, January 24th at 5:00 p.m. in the HCPA

Online Course Requests Students: January 23 – February 2 Course requests open for students in StudentVUE Parents/Guardians: February 3 – 12 Parents/Guardians are required to review and lock courses in ParentVUE Click the “Lock Course Requests” button to lock courses This will serve as your parent/guardian electronic signature February 6 – 7 (5:00-7:00 p.m.) Parent registration nights at Sossaman Middle School for parents/guardians who need access to a computer and/or assistance with online course requests Notes: Once your course requests are locked by your parent/guardian, you will not be able to make further changes. Do not use the StudentVUE and ParentVUE app to select courses. February 13-17: Counselors will meet with students during Science classes to review and lock course requests

Remember… Review courses in the 2017-18 High School Course Guide at www.husd.org. Review your course history and complete a credit check worksheet to help you make your course selections. Make careful decisions because these are the classes you will be enrolled in for next school year. Class selection is not a guarantee of placement in that class. Enroll in 7 courses (14 semesters) if you want to take A hour. You must provide your own transportation for A hour Enroll in 6 courses (12 semesters) if you do not want to take A hour. Select 3 alternate elective courses (6 semesters). If electives are not selected, school officials will select your courses for you. Use a computer to request your courses through StudentVUE. The StudentVUE and ParentVUE app will not work for course selection. For courses requiring an audition, teacher recommendation, or application, register for the beginning level course.
