HOW TO BUILD A PC Simple, quick and comprehensive beginners guide to how to build a personal computer

What it takes to build one PLANNIG RESEARCH LEGO SKILLS TIME

Why to actually build a pc yourself Overpriced prebuild PC‘s No available prebuilds in your price range Can‘t find a prebuild with specifications you require

What pc should you build Depends on what you plan doin on it!

What parts should you buy That‘s what the research is for!

Compatibility The rule of thumb is: If it fits the socket, it will (probably) work*. *might not

Compatibility – what to look for Processor – motherboard RAM – motherboard CPU cooler – CPU socket

CPU – Manufacturers and sockets intel AMD

CPU – Manufacturers and sockets Intel AMD

RAM types

RAM types

CPU Cooler Just make sure it fits (remember the rule of thumb) Plus most CPUs have a cooler included anyways

What parts do we need CPU Motherboard Some RAM Storage GPU Power supply PC case

What tools do we need Thermal paste for the CPU Screwdriver for screwing screws Pliers or nut spinner for motherboard standoffs Zip ties (cable ties) for cable management Antistatic wrist strap

Installing the motherboard into the case The IO shield (panel) and standoffs need to be installed first. So clip in the IO shield from the inside, then install the standoffs with your tool of choice. (Align the motherboard with the backplate in the case to know where to install them.)

Installing the motherboard into the case Now insert the motherboard and screw it in. Make sure to align the IO of the motherboard with the IO shield first.

Inserting the CPU into the motherboard Inserting the CPU is quite straightforward, just make sure to align the notches on the CPU with the ones in the socket

Inserting the CPU into the motherboard Then fix the CPU in place with the load plate using the metallic lever. It requires little force to do - so be gentle.

Installing the CPU cooler Some coolers are toolless, some require the use of a screwdriver. After the installation plug the fan cable to the motherboard 4-pin header labeled CPU fan. Some coolers also have a back plate and their assembly needs to be done before you install the motherboard!

Installing the RAM modules Press down the ejector tab at both sides of the DIMM socket Align the notches Push the RAM module into the socket until the ejector tabs lock in place

Installing the GPU Locate a PCI express socket on your motherboard Remove rear expension slot covers to make space for your GPU Insert the gpu gently into the socket Fix it in place with screws where the slot covers were

Adding some storage Locate the mounting rails or dedicated case room for your storage drives Secure them in place with screws if possible

Adding some storage Connect all storage devices with SATA cables

Installing the power supply Put the power supply inside and secure it with screws from the back of the computer Make sure the air intake with fan is not blocked

Plugging in the power cords P3 - Mostly DVDs P4 - Disk storage backplane PCIe - Supplemental power P1 - Main motherboard power P2 - Motherboard power

Cable management

Flipping the swich (bios post)

First builds are the hardest ones Compatibility Exceptions Experience

Questions? No? Ok bye!
