Software Software is the programs and instructions that tell the computer what to do.

Computers software falls into two major categories: System software Application software

Program that controls the system hardware and System Software Program that controls the system hardware and interacts with application software.

System software includes a variety of programs, such as operating systems, communication controls program, utility programs, and programming language translators 

Application Software Any computer program used to create or process data, such as text documents, spreadsheets, graphics and so on. Example include database management software, spreadsheet programs and word processing programs  

Operating System The master control program that provides an interface for a user to communicate with the computer; it manages hardware devices, manages and maintains disk file systems, and support application programs.

Operations of Operating Systems 1. Input and output control. 2. CPU task scheduling. 3. Data management and storage. 4. Command languages and utilities.

Single User Operating System A single-user operating System is a type of operating system (OS) that is developed and intended for use on a computer or similar machine that will only have a single user at any given time.
