1. What is pantomime? Pantomime is the acting without words to tell a story. 2. What is mime? Mime is a complex set of actions that do NOT necessarily tell a story.

3. Why would someone use pantomime to teach acting? It teaches basic body motion and facial expression without having to use the voice. 4. What are the three main parts to nonverbal communication or acting? Gestures, Facial Expression and Body Language.

5. What are gestures? The use of hands and feet to relate a message. Examples: thumbs up! Or kick the ground or stomp! 6. What are facial expressions? Use of the face to convey a message. Examples: roll your eyes or curl your lip!

7. What is body language? It the use of the body to convey a message. Examples are: slouched shoulders – what does that convey to you? 8. In acting, why are these three so important? The big 3 say so much without having to even speak a word!

The seven elements of pantomime are: Size – Small, large, medium can all be conveyed without saying a word. 10. Weight – Heavy, light, and medium 11. Shape – Round, Square, Rectangle, Flat 12. Texture – smooth, rough, soft, furry etc. etc.

13. Resistance – how hard it is to push or pull something is shown by offering the resistance that is normally needed to create that look. For example. The car door. 14. Placement – This is the location of things. TRULY! Where does the steering wheel sit in a car? Well that is its placement in pantomime. 15. Condition – Old, broken, new, etc.
