Welcome Back to School Mr. Kilian’s Class 2017-2018

Meet the Teacher Philadelphia, PA. La Salle University B.S. in Accounting. Chestnut Hill College Masters degree Elementary Education It is my 17th year teaching in Washington Township.

Organization Binders Contain Assignment Book and Take Home Folder Monitor child’s progress Please DO NOT remove papers unless graded Student’s responsibility with parental support

Assignment Book Compliments of the PTO Used daily, recorded each morning Sign each night On going assignments/ nightly assignments Brief questions or comments to teacher Student’s responsibility, parental support

Grading Policy All Subject Areas Summative (Unit Test/Benchmarks) 40% Formative (Quizzes, On-Demand Writing) 30% Supportive (Classwork) 20% Supplementary ( Homework, Word Study ) 10%

District Grading Scale B= 92%~85% C= 84%~77% D= 76%~70% F= 69% and Below

Important Information All students grades and progress reports can be accessed using PowerSchool. School flyers and information on Whitman website We will be using Remind this year, where you can receive text messages from me with important updates.  Text @fhk8b2 to the number 81010

Homework Policy Monday through Thursday nights Due the following day unless otherwise specified. Calendars will be circled for missing assignments or being unprepared for class.

Reading Encourage building stamina with books they can read with accuracy. Students will set individual reading goals to work on and practice Students will keep track of their reading with a reading log

Reading Accelerated Reader: Book finder located on the Whitman homepage http://www.wtps.org/whitman/ All students have a reading level based on AR and will be reading books on that level. Please encourage students to read on-level books at home!

Writing/Fundations Students will receive a Fundations packet every Monday which is due on Friday Students will be working on a Personal Narrative for the 1st Quarter

Math Emphasis on mathematical thinking Emphasis on problem solving Take risks and learn from mistakes Encourage daily practice of all math facts! **First in Math**

Taught 1st and 4th marking period. Social Studies Taught 1st and 4th marking period.

Taught 2nd and 3rd marking period. Science Taught 2nd and 3rd marking period.

Birthdays We are no longer allowed to have birthday treats brought into school, however, children are allowed to bring in pencils for the class or a book/game to celebrate.
