Tiny House Village Project November 27 Update St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church November 2016 The Delores Project Radian, Inc. Colorado Construction Institute

Tiny House journey so far St. Andrew's has the rare opportunity to create a small scale, temporary Tiny House Village located on a section of the north parking lot Milestones so far: Research and a site visit from St Andrew's to a Tiny Village in Seattle Research on other Tiny Home projects Identified partners who bring subject matter expertise: The Delores Project, Radian, Inc., and Colorado Construction Institute Discussion/vetting with the Vestry Presentations/conversations with parish Meetings with neighbors, community associations and city officials Posted signs, outlining behavior expectations when using or sleeping on our property Installing motion-sensitive lighting a the alley and sides of the building

Resident Profile The villagers would be: Single women in transition Screened by Dolores Project Not in a domestic violence situation Mentally, emotionally and physically capable to living in community In transition to more permanent housing or affordable housing

Update on Community Meetings We held four meetings: August 28, joint parish-neighborhood meeting September 14, One Lincoln Place September 21, Radian Inc. September 28, Fluid Coffee Bar In these meetings, Listened to concerns Cleared-up misperceptions Heard from supporters Started a FAQ list for further research Gathered neighbors contact information so we can send updates

Meeting with City Updates The Tiny House team met with city officials from City Attorney's Office, Health and Environment, Historic Preservation, Fire Department, Zoning, and Building Departments on November 2. Key take-aways include: The city is overall very supportive of the idea They provided guidance on Certain zoning and code applications Managing the kitchen and bathroom sewer lines Managing fire-safety ADA Compliance Timing We have specific next steps pending parish discernment

Why are we doing this? We believe the Tiny House Village is a continuation of St. Andrew's expression of mission and vision of sanctuary in the city and for renewal of the world The city desperately needs affordable housing and the wait for affordable or transitional housing can take six months or more. This Tiny House Village is intended to be a temporary , safe, stable location for capable adults who need a temporary shelter to help them in their journey to rejoin society and find permanent housing. We own the parking lots, and as such, can offer space as part of our contribution How can 8 tiny homes have an impact on this massive homeless problem?  We feel the city has to begin somewhere, and this project can serve as a model. We will be working with churches across the city to follow our model, thereby distributing homeless housing out of just the downtown core.

Tiny House Next Steps Update the project with the parish November 27 after the 11am service December 4 between services December 11, Mother Elizabeth will lead the parish in a formal discernment (after the 11am service) Survey sent to parish for final comment, thoughts December 12 Decision will be made whether to proceed after the survey is done If yes, Tiny House committee will work with city-assigned project manager to move forward with necessary permits and applications Tiny House committee and partners will continue to meet with foundations and funding partners
