December 2000 - A380 and A380F launched simultaneously Freighter 150t Payload 5600 NM 590t MTOW A380-800 Passenger 555 seats 8000 NM 560t MTOW Pax and freighter launched simultaneously due to the feed-back from airlines for an aircraft of this size category in both markets. Dynamics of freight market boradly similar to pax in this respect – ever declining yields driving the need to lower unit costs, consolidation in the market and operations to/from a small number of large hub airports – for more see A380F module.

+150% The revolution of 1970 : 707-320B to 747-100 150 pax Evolution in the 21st century 747-400 to A380 747-400 – 412 pax A380 – 555 pax +35%

How the A380 compares in size B747-400 70.7m E 19.3m 64.5m 412 A380-800 B747-8 ICAO Code F F Wingspan 79.6m 68.4m Length 72.7m 74.2m Height 24.1m 19.4m Seats 555 446 Pax and freighter launched simultaneously due to the feed-back from airlines for an aircraft of this size category in both markets. How the A380 compares in size

Shorter gear wheelbase than 777-300 A380 14.3m 777-300ER 12.9m 70cm Similar gear width No runway / taxiway widening required (only shoulder upgrades) Similar Manoeuvrability Shorter gear wheelbase than 777-300 Use of existing taxiway systems (No taxiway filleting required) Better take-off and landing performance No runway / taxiway lengthening required Take-off: 9,900ft (3020m) A380-800F Take-off: 11,600ft (3530m) 747-400F 1,700ft (520m) less Landing: 6800ft (2070m) Landing: 8,000ft (2430m) 1,200ft (370m) less Better pavement loading 20 wheel main landing gear = less weight per wheel = lower ACN Pax and freighter launched simultaneously due to the feed-back from airlines for an aircraft of this size category in both markets. Dynamics of freight market boradly similar to pax in this respect – ever declining yields driving the need to lower unit costs, consolidation in the market and operations to/from a small number of large hub airports – for more see A380F module.

Major points A380 length similar to 747-400 -> around 72m long -> distance tail/nose: around 62m A380 fuselage height similar to 747-400 -> around 10m high A380 vertical tail height higher than 747-400 -> 24m vs 19m (vs 20m for the 747-SP)
