FIRST TEAM 619 Cavalier Robotics

We are Cavalier Robotics, Team 619, the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team for Charlottesville/Albemarle and surrounding counties. We are a team of high school students and adult mentors celebrating science and technology in Central Virginia. We strive to promote the values of FIRST: leadership, responsibility, accountability, self confidence, and team work, as well as practical hands on engineering, through the building of competition robots. CARobotics (Cavalier Robotics) is a 501(c)(3) organization located in Charlottesville, VA."

Our Board Members: Tom Curtis (Lead build mentor) Jan Pringle (Founder, Chair person) Steve Taylor (Secretary) Ming Tsai (Treasurer) Nick Smith Randy Crossman Larry Banner Tammy Giacolone Nathan Dolenc (Advisory Board) Elizabeth Teisberg Joe Mina Rebecca Adams Mac Lafferty

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. The FIRST mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

For our students, participation in CARobotics offers direct, hands-on experience in STEM related activities, construction, engineering, design, electronics, and programming. Students also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, learn teamwork, project management, and collaboration. Students also participate in fundraising and outreach efforts, including mentoring FIRST Tech Challenge teams and the robotics portion of the UVA Tech Camps, demos at the Boy Scout Camporee and various commercial locations and schools. Since 2001 Team 619 has successfully participated annually in FIRST Regional Competitions in Richmond, Myrtle Beach, and Washington, D.C.

By supporting Cavalier Robotics FIRST Team 619 you are making a positive difference in the lives of local kids, the future of your community, and the world by training the leaders of tomorrow. You are providing the motivation and opportunities to inspire young people to become the next generation of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals. Sponsorship Benefits - Strengthen reputation - Build technological work force - Create future employee pipeline - Provide volunteer opportunities

70% of FRC® (FIRST Robotics Competition) alumni reported an increased motivation to do well in school. 88% of FRC alumni went on to college. 80% of schools reported FIRST involvement has led to the creation of new courses and/or integration of robotics instruction into existing classes. “FIRST isn’t about building robots, it’s about developing life skills. The kids learn skills in relationships, teamwork, finance, fundraising, budgeting, and project management. The partnership between academia, the community, and industry...will build our future employees and future citizens.” - Steve Sanghi, Chairman of the Board, President & CEO Microchip Technology, Member of the FIRST Board of Directors

Our students come from High Schools throughout the region: Albemarle, Western Albemarle, Monticello, and Charlottesville High Schools; St. Anne’s Belfield, and students who are home schooled. Post their experiences on the Cavalier Robotics team, our students have entered colleges and universities such as University of Virginia, MIT, Tufts, Stanford, UC Berkley, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Virginia Polytechnic and State University, University of West Virginia, and many more. Over the past three years, 93% of our graduating students have entered college to pursue a STEM-related course of study.

Why sponsor? Your name on a ROBOT!! Your support of student success, responsibility, accountability, and the pursuit of careers in science or technology. Your support of our students carrying STEM enthusiasm and creativity into the community.
