Reshaping for mission A report and mission plan for presentation to the General Assembly of the United Free Church of Scotland, 2015, from the Planning for Mission group
The vision As a denomination we want to see United Free Church congregations across Scotland revitalised, renewed and growing and to see new congregations established, so that the denomination can play its part in the mission of God’s people in Scotland.
Our old context
Our new context
What this means for us The membership conveyor belt is (more or less) broken
What this means for us We need to recognise that we are sowing in hard soil
But do not despair – all is not lost
Our response - The starting point “When did we last plant a church?”
Our response – from maintenance to mission Three aspects Church planting Church revitalisation Churches renewed for mission
Church planting Establishing new congregations where currently none exists Offshoot from an established congregation Or forming a new team and starting from scratch
Church revitalisation A fragile congregation becoming once again a vibrant, worshipping and witnessing church
Renewal for mission A relatively healthy church being encouraged and equipped to engage in mission in its community
Commit to begin… …even if we don’t know exactly how things will go
Structures to enable mission We will need to review and perhaps renew our structures to best enable mission to happen We will need pioneers to lead these projects We will need to commit resources
Prayer must undergird all of this process
Over to you…
