What is a rain forest? The rainforest is a green place where it is hot. It always rains in the rain forest. Many plants grow in the rainforest. Many animals live in the Amazon.

Location of the Rainforest Tropical rainforests are located in Asia, South America, India, Australia, and Hawaii. They are located around the equator.

Emergent Layer The emergent layer is the tallest out of all. The emergent layer has many birds up there such as a toucans and harpy eagles. Butterflies, flying squirrels, parrots, sloths and monkeys.

Canopy Layer Many animals live in the canopy layer such as jaguars, snakes, parrots, and sloth. The canopy looks like a green carpet made up of tree tops. The canopy is in the middle of all the layers.

Understory layer The understory is the last layer above the ground. Many frogs live in the understory like red eye tree frogs.

Forest Floor The forest floor has the most animals out of all the layers. Some spiders are 16 inches down there! When an animal dies, lots of bugs eat it.

Deforestation Many people are cutting down trees in the rain forest. They are cutting down trees for houses, furniture, and floors. When they want to let cattle graze they burn the rain forest down.

People of the Rain Forest Some people live in the rain forests. A lot of Brazilians live in the rain forest. The people of the rain forest live like the Native Americans.

Small Animals There are a lot of small animals like frogs, grass hoppers, and lady bugs. There are even butterflies.

Dangerous animals Many dangerous animals live in the rain forest such as jaguars, leopards, poison dart frogs and boas.

Jungle Cats! Jaguars are dangerous animals and fast runners.
