Biblical Way of Discipleship

(Psa 19:7) The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

The Book of Proverbs The Simple one Prudent man The Scorner The Fool The Wise Man 172 verses directly deal with this paradigm

The Simple One He’s a blank sheet of Paper Void of Understanding Gullible (believers every word) Lacks insight Easily deceived

The Prudent Man Looks after the simple Conceals knowledge Foresees Evil Covers shame Regards reproof Gets Knowledge

The Scorner Won’t listen Hates reproving Proud and Haughty Delights in disobedience Can’t gain wisdom Scoffer Mockery

The Fool Says “There is no God” Mocks sin Slanders Hides Hatred His Father is shamed Contentious No delight in understanding

The Wise Shall inherit glory Loves rebuke Makes a glad Father Refrains his lips He wins souls Listens to Counsel Departs from Evil

(Pro 14:6-10) A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth. Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge. The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit. Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour. The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

(Pro 14:11-15) The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Your way is determined by your choices

(Pro 14:11-15) The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

(Gen 2:9) And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Choices

(Deu 11:26-28) Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. Choices

(Deu 30:15) See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; (Deu 30:19) I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: Choices

(Pro 3:5) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Pro 3:6) In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Choices

(Pro 16:2) All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. (Pro 16:3) Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. Choices

(Gen 13:9-12) Is not the whole land before thee (Gen 13:9-12) Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left. And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. Choices

Your way is determined by your choices Your choices determine your consequences

(Pro 14:11-15) The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

(Gal 6:7) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Gal 6:8) For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Consequences

(Gen 19:1-2) And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. Consequences

(Gen 19:8) Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. (Gen 19:26) But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. Consequences

(Gen 19:30) And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. (Gen 19:31) And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: (Gen 19:32) Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. Consequences

(2Sa 11:1-5) And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child. Consequences

Your way is determined by your choices Your choices determine your consequences Your consequences can be avoided by listening to counsel

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

(Pro 12:15) The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. (Pro 11:14) Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Counsel

(Pro 22:3) A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. (Pro 10:17) He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth. Counsel

(Pro 19:18-21) Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. Counsel
