LESSON 09

LESSON 09 STARTER Above is a photo of some line follower sensors, with the person next to you can you put down in words a step by step sequence of how the robot operates using the sensors…

DESIGN CHALLENGE Learning objective: Adapt your design to meet new challenges, needs and for different users. Build and program a robot with a line follower sensor….. Scenario: You have approached a minefield with your robot, there is only one clear path through the minefield to the other side, however if your robot strays off the path then it will hit a mine and be blown to pieces. A line is marked on the ground for humans to see and walk along. Program your robot to follow this line through the minefield. Extension task: A bomb has gone off and there damage to the line resulting in a gap in the line. Reprogram your robot to take into account the gap in the line, re-joining the line after the gap and carrying on through the minefield. The line breaks but is travelling in the same direction both sides of the gap.

DESIGN CHALLENGE Create the following test field

Line follower challenge outcome video DESIGN CHALLENGE Solution Video Watch the video below to see a working outcome. Here is a screen shot of part of the program that will achieve it. Copy this onto the program sheet. Line follower challenge outcome video

LESSON 09 PLENARY With the person sat next to you, consider the following questions? A. Can you think of where we might use line follower robots in industry? B. Do you think a robot could identify different coloured lines? C. If so how would it be able to identify the different colours?

SUMMARY Today you have: Learning objective: Adapt your design to meet new challenges, needs and for different users. Today you have: Developed a more complex robot to meet a challenging need. Worked in teams to adapt, change and agree new direction for a product in development. Applied your knowledge of robotics, sensors and control to the task of creating a unique robot.
