Who is Eligible to Apply? All Eligible EMCC Students Currently enrolled at EMCC for Fall 2016 3.5 or better cumulative GPA 36 hours at 100-level or above completed at time of application 45 hours at 100-level or above completed by December 2016 Legal resident of United States Phi Theta Kappa membership NOT required No disciplinary record December graduates may apply

What is Expected of Applicants? Answer the Question Being Asked Essay (500 words or less) Describe your most significant endeavor since attending community college in which you applied your academic or intellectual skills from your community college education to benefit your school, community or society. The endeavor may be in community/service learning, in research, in the arts, journalism, advocacy/public affairs, etc. Judges will consider originality, initiative, and degree of difficulty, results and benefit to society. What is Expected of Applicants? Answer the Question Being Asked Essay Discussion Questions (250 words each) Describe up to three obligations which include family responsibilities, employment, or other non-volunteer obligations you have while attending community college. List up to three awards, scholarships or special recognitions that you have received while enrolled at your community college. Why did you choose to attend a community college? What is Expected of Applicants? Answer the Question Being Asked Essay Discussion Questions Activities Campus Involvement - Up to three community college organizations in which you have participated. Community Service – Up to three community activities in which you have participated since you have been enrolled in community college. Service does have to be connected to EMCC, but may include service learning or work in the classroom. Online Assessments

Answer the Question Being Asked Essay Discussion Questions Activities Online Assessments Assessment #1 must be from a current community college faculty member, administrator or dean describing student leadership skills , service abilities Assessment #2 must be from a mentor or supervisor who was directly involved in the endeavor that the applicant writes about in the essay. Competition Timeline Fall 2016 for Fall 2017 Transfer Sep 30 Semi-Finalists named (top 4-5 essays) Oct 1 Online Application opens for Semi-Finalists Oct 31 Semi-Finalists Submit Applications to Judging Committee Nov 12 Two Nominees announced Nov 24 Final applications submitted by EMCC Administration
