Morning Work Language Arts Coach book Pages 6-10 Numbers 1-10, we will grade in small group

Essential Question: How does understanding genres help the reader think about and respond appropriately to text sources in oral and written form using proper grammar. Standard(s): ELAGSE5RL2 Determine theme from a text by demonstrating knowledge of plot elements, character responses, and summarization ELA GSE5L6/ELACL5L1-e conventions of standard English, the use of commas and conjunctions /

Lesson Topic: recognizing main ideas in several genres Work Time: Students will work on their independent reading level with a specific text based on genre and/or lexile level.

Guided Groups/ Partners: Group 1read text, answer HOT questions and rewrite the text into a different genre with at least 5 simple, 2 compound, 1 complex, and 1 compound/complex sentence. Group 2- Reading a text from at least two genres. compare and contrast the two different stories based on the characteristics of the genre. Group 3 -create a foldable for their text leveled reading group

Group 1- create 5 arguments and 3 counterarguments for a debate Group 2: must use graphic organizer to organize arguments and counter arguments Group 3- With teacher brainstorm different ideas on large sheet of paper, identify those ideas that are useful, and then put ideas on the graphic organizer

Closing: Create two ideals for the Constitution of 5th grade, “We are Fairview”
