WELCOME CO THE PRESENTATION ON STUDIES ON THE SOLE BONDING SYSTEM OF POLYURETHANE (PU) SOLING MATERIALS WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF UPPER MATERIALS Presented by SHAIKH MAHABUB-UL ISLAM Exm Roll: 51 Reg No: 2683 Session- 2001-02
CONTENTS AIM OF THE PROJECT 3 1 ABOUT PU & PU SOLINGS 2 ADHESION 3 LAB WORK & RESULT 4 CONCLUSION 3 5
1. AIM OF THE PROJECT To analyze the PU sole bonding with different uppers. To find the faults & remedy for better bonding. To find the strength and weakness of PU solings.
2. ABOUT PU & PU SOLINGS PU was first invented in the late 1930 in Germany. Formation of PU Raw materials >> Diols >> Diisocyanate >> Cross Linker >> Catalyst >>Blowing agents.
2.1.CHARACTERISTICS OF PU MATERIALS Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyurethane#Production
Excellent flexibility. Excellent slip resistance. 2.2 PROPERTY OF PU Sole Light weight. Excellent flexibility. Excellent slip resistance. Oil resistant, safe & durable. Sole weight versus performance Source: www.huntsman.com/pu/Media/Huntsman_Folder_lowdef.pdf

4.0 LAB WORK & RESULT Test Method :: SATRA Test Method AM2 Fig: Tensile tester (STD 172) Fig: Sole for test Fig: Shoe upper material Fig: Test specimen
4.1. Result Standard Guidelines For Bond Strength Test Result SI No Property/ Test Method Standard Unit Test Value 1. Polyurethane DIN 53274 BS 513 1:1, 1.2 N/cm kg/cm/min 50 4.0 Test Result Sample of Buffalo L/R gives 3.84 kg/cm/min with Neopren. 4.0 Kg/cm/min with PU Sample of PVC coated Fabric gives 0.2 kg/cm/min with Neopren. 0.2 Kg/cm/min with PU
5.0 CONCLUSION According to the test: Recommendation Buffalo L/R gives better bonding with PU Sole and PU adhesive PVC coated fabric do not perform well. Recommendation >> Scouring >>Primer using >> Correct adhesive selection >>proper drying >>Reactivation temp. & time >> attaching pressure. These will help for better bonding.
