By Kaffe Fassett Heritage quilts Earthy Herringbone By Kaffe Fassett Heritage quilts Part 6 – Piecing the Columns The following directions are written specifically for the EARTHY color way

Piecing diagonal columns Follow directions on page 72. Place the “next” strip ¼” past the left edge of the foundation paper. Adjust as needed to maintain 45 degrees. Press as you go. 5. You many need to adjust the size of the final strip or add a strip to fill the paper. Do NOT remove the paper!

Piecing Horizontal Columns Piece the 4 straight columns as shown in the diagram on page 130. Columns may not necessarily end up the same length depending on your ¼” seam. Adjustments may be needed at the time of assembly.

Assemble the Quilt Adjust lengths of columns as necessary to insure all are the same length. Alternate diagonal and horizontal columns to complete the quilt center as shown on page 130. Using the 6” set-aside strips, measure and cut the borders. Add side and top borders. Remove the foundation paper...finally! Add batting and backing. Quilt as desired. Bind.
