Presentation transcript:

why plastic straws should be banned By Lillian Orum

Reason 1. Keep our earth clean! You will live on this earth for the rest of your life so you want it to be clean and healthy. But when you use disposable plastic straws and other plastics such as bottles and bags, they end up in our oceans causing pollution and marine mammals to ingest this plastic, and even die. You call that healthy?

You might be thinking, why plastic straws You might be thinking, why plastic straws? Well the reason that I have decided on plastic straws specifically, is because I realized that I have to start somewhere and I can’t ban all plastic objetcts. So I thought I would start with something that was especially harmful to our planet… Plastic straws.

Every day 500,000,000 plastic straws are produced and sadly, most of them end up in our oceans. These straws are apart of millions of trash that cause about 100,000 marine mammals to ingest plastic.

Reason 2. Animal population is decreasing Sadly the pollution of plastic straws and other debris doesn't just make our oceans unclean, it also makes them unsafe. Because of this pollution, our marine animals are being threatened. http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/short-film-showcase/are-you-eating- plastic-for-dinner
