Changing Population - It is estimated that by 2025 the number of people over 85 will have increased by two thirds nationally. - West Dorset is projected to have the largest gains in older population, with the numbers of people aged 65+ increasing by almost 20,000 in 2026. - There are approximately 700,00 people with dementia, In 30 years this figure is expected to double to 1.4 million. Take up of Personal Budgets as direct payments. Persons with a Learning Disability 22nd March 2010 Currently minimal day service for people with a learning disability Estimated cost based on average cost of a day service is £88.36 46 People with a learning disability living in Dorchester and surrounding villages. - 18 Attend day services in Weymouth - 26 Attend day services in Bridport (2 day service at Acland Road) - 2 Attend day services in Sturminster Newton Developing Community Based Services

Service Users - “What’s not working?” 22nd March 2010 -Would like more choice of activities -Require better communication between services -Better access to information about alternative options -Transport accessibility and flexibility -Need more opportunities for voluntary/paid work -Isolation due to rural location -Unsuitable leisure centre equipment -Home care too expensive and inflexible -Lack of funding for activities -Concerns about independent living Developing Community Based Services At the Day Centre: -Not enough outings -Transport buses arrive too early -Number of activities declining -Would like more days at the centre

Staff - “What’s not working?” 22nd March 2010 -Access -Public transport needs to be more accessible (specifically trains) -Lack of information about activities available At the Day Centre: -Staffing means one-to-one care is difficult -Need more flexibility around opening times -More dementia training required -Need more volunteers -Transport needs to be more consistent -Staff need to be consulted more on decisions about the centre Developing Community Based Services
