Property Claims Training You can complete this training in five minutes or less. Throughout the training – click to advance.

This property claims training is designed to give you a basic understanding of property claims at UCSC. Most sudden and accidental events that cause damage to the university’s property are covered by property insurance. Some examples of covered events include theft, vandalism, resultant water damage and fire. There may also be coverage for indirect damages like business interruption. Introduction

Roles and Responsibilities The university has hired Sedgwick to administer property claims. Sedgwick is responsible for managing the claims process and determining if there is insurance coverage for the loss and what reimbursement is owed to the campus. Risk Services facilitates the claims process and connects the Affected Campus Unit to Sedgwick. The Affected Campus Unit is responsible for repairing or replacing the damaged or stolen property in accordance with campus policies and practices. The Affected Campus Unit is also responsible for providing information to Sedgwick. This information commonly includes what happened during the loss; historical information about the damaged property; photographs of the damage; work orders and invoices. Roles and Responsibilities

The claims process can be broken into four steps Step 1 – Reporting – the Affected Campus Unit calls in the claim to Sedgwick at 800-416-4029 as soon as possible after the loss occurs. Step 2 – Introductions – Risk Services sends out an initial contact email to make introductions and to provide basic information about the claims process. Step 3 – Determination of Coverage and Amount of Reimbursement – This step usually involves many interactions between Sedgwick and the Affected Campus Unit as Sedgwick seeks and receives information in support of the claim. Sedgwick then evaluates the information. During this step, Risk Services obtains a copy of the police report from the UCSC Police Department and forwards it directly to Sedgwick. Step 4 – Funding the Claim – Risk Services works with Sedgwick and the Affected Campus Units to review funding information. Risk Services is responsible for providing funding information to Sedgwick. The claims process can be broken into four steps
