Emergency Information Beasley Hall 2855 S. University To assist you, the following information provides guidance for various emergencies that may arise. Contacting TCU Police The TCU Police department should be contacted at x7777 (or 817-257-7777, by cellular phone) for any type of emergency (weather, active shooter, person with a gun, etc.) that occurs on campus. The size and number of buildings on campus makes it very difficult for the local first responders to come to the proper location, therefore calling TCU Police is the best method of notification. TCU Police can meet and guide the emergency responders to your location. If you decide to dial 911, be prepared to give the dispatcher the address of the building you are in (see above). Additionally, they may ask for the name of the building, floor, and room number. Be patient and calm as the dispatcher asks you the needed questions concerning the emergency. Emergency Mass Notification System (EMNS) The University now has in place an Emergency Mass Notification System capable of providing emergency information on outside and inside speakers, along with text and email messages. If you have not signed up for the text/email service, or TCU Alert, you might want to consider doing this. Medical Emergencies Your first step in a medical emergency is to notify TCU Police (x7777) of the situation in order to get help started on the way. Provide what first aid or assistance to the individual up to your skill level. Each building is equipped with an automatic external defibrillator or AED. The AED for this building is located in the Carr Chapel, southwest corner of the lobby or by contacting TCU Police. If you believe that the situation is heart-related, be sure to provide the TCU Police dispatcher with this information. Building Evacuation Generally, most evacuations will be the result of a fire alarm. It is the policy for the university that once a fire alarm is sounded, evacuation is mandatory for all occupants regardless whether it is believed to be false or not. The responding TCU Police, Physical Plant personnel, or Fort Worth Fire Department will give an all- clear notification when it is safe to return to the building. If you know of a handicapped or wheel-chair bound person has been placed in a safe area – the nearest fire exit stairwell – then pass that information to the first responders. Seeking Shelter (weather) Texas weather can change often during any given day. Tornadoes, hail, and lightning can prove to be the most dangerous types of weather seen on campus. If you receive notification to seek shelter because of a weather concern, you will need to go to the designated shelter in your building. Do not leave the building unless you are seeking shelter in a sturdier building. The best available shelter for your building is located in the hallway of level 1. On the occasion that the University has been through an ice or snow storm, be aware that entranceways and sidewalks next to buildings can be dangerous because of melting ice falling off of roofs.
