Causes of The American Civil War Projects

Virtual Museum Good Bad Due to the large number of wounded, surgeons became proficient at performing amputations; in many cases an amputation could be performed in ten minutes. The number of wounded needing attention and the lack of water in many cases meant there was no attempt to wash hands or instruments between procedures. The lack of hygiene, antibiotics and sterile procedures created a large chance of infection; however, it has been estimated that as many as 75% of the amputees survived. Tools like the ones pictured above were used to perform the amputations. This is a Civil War cannon

Civil War Medicine & Nursing – How did nurses care for wounded soldiers during the Civil War? If you were injured, what were your chances of survival? Clara Barton – Why do we remember her? Uniforms and Fashions – What did the soldiers wearin the north and south? Was fashion for women different in the north and south? Rich vs. poor fashion? Music, Art, and Poetry of the Civil War – What music, art and poetry were created or favored during the time period? What memorable pieces are still admired today?
