The Purpose of a Resume To provide a work/training history to prospective employers To document your professional strengths

STEPS FOR WRITING A RESUME

STEP 1: Review Florida Principal Leadership Standards Instructional Leadership Human Resource Development Managing Learning Environment Ethical Leadership Learning Accountability & Assessment Vision (principals only) Decision Making Strategies Diversity Technology Community of Stakeholders & Partnerships Go to http://www.fldoe.org/profdev/fpls.asp for description of Standards.

STEP 2: Identify Experiences Create a “header” for each Standard List experiences that demonstrate your expertise with each Standard

STEP 3: Writing Experiences Write experiences that are: Specific Based on Data (Measurable) Results Oriented

EXAMPLE INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP: Monitored the implementation of the School Improvement Plan, resulting in 5% increase in Reading scores Facilitated FCAT Weekend Camp attended by 150 students; 15% of students demonstrated improved achievement Implemented an Instructional Calendar utilized by 42 instructional staff members to focus on math skills

Hints for Writing Experiences Do not list names of individuals. Use only positions. List at least five experiences under each Standard. Place your strongest experiences at the top of each list. List an experience only once—do not place the same experience under several standards. Bullet your experiences.

Length of Resume Assistant Principal Applicants: Limit Evidence of Experiences (Resume) to two (2) pages. Principal Applicants: Limit Resumes to four (4) pages.

Resume Check Use spell check before you let anyone else see your resume. Have a grammatically critical friend do a grammar review. Scan your resume for accuracy and clarity. Have a third person read the final copy, and obtain his/her input.

Tips for Easy Reading Format your pages to 8 1/2” X 11”. Use no smaller than 12 point font. Use Times Roman or Arial typeface. Avoid italics.

STEP 4: School-Based Managerial Application Form Complete the two-page School-Based Managerial Application form located on the web site Applications that do not have the School-Based Managerial Application form will NOT be processed.

STEP 5: Sending Application Send your application form, resume, and supporting documentation in the proper electronic format. Follow the directions on the web site for submitting your electronic application. Hard copies of applications will not be accepted.
