Why did Mary Magdalene love Jesus? John 19:25, John 20:11-18, Mark 16:9, Matthew 27:55-56

Why do Christians love to talk about Jesus Christ?

1. Was Mary Magdalene present at the crucifixion cross of Jesus 1. Was Mary Magdalene present at the crucifixion cross of Jesus? [yes] [no] John 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

A real believer in Jesus A hearty lover of him, was zealously attached to him, and followed him to the last. Three Marys are follows Christ to the cross, and standing by it, when all his disciples forsook him and fled. These women teach us to view our sins laid upon him, and taken away by him, looking unto him for salvation.

2. What was Mary Magdalene surprised to see at the tomb? John 20:1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.

the stone taken away Mary's coming so early to the grave, shows her great love and affection to Christ. Joseph rolled the stone over the tomb, the Pharisees sealed it, and they set a watch to guard it. The stone was removed by an angel from heaven. The greatest sinners, when converted, are the most humble and willing servants of Christ.

3. What kind of emotion did Mary Magdalene express at the tomb of Jesus? John 20:11 But Mary stood outside at the sepulcher weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulcher

Weeping The body of her dear Lord was taken away. She was prevented of showing it respect and the dignity Jesus deserved. As she gazes through her tears on the open tomb, she feared the body of Christ would be insulted and abused by wicked men. Her heart was ready to break with sorrow: a wounded spirit who can bear?

4. Who did Mary Magdalene see sitting inside the tomb? John 20:12 And saw two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

a vision of Mary There were earlier visions of angels, of which there were several witnesses. One at the head, and the other at the feet where the body of Jesus had lain. They had the charge of the body of Christ. “He is not here, He is risen. Come, see here where the Lord laid!”

5. What did the angels ask Mary Magdalene? John 20:13 And they said unto her, Woman, why weep you? She said unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

woman, why weepest? Signifying, that she had no reason to weep, but to rejoice and be glad. Though the body of her Lord was not there, yet he was risen from the dead, and was alive. This they to comfort her for her grief. She opened her case, “They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.” Only knowing where Jesus was could dry her tears.

6. Did Mary Magdalene recognize Jesus when she first saw him 6. Did Mary Magdalene recognize Jesus when she first saw him? [yes] [no] John 20:14 And when she had thus spoke, she turned back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

Knew not that it was Jesus She was not expecting to see him. It was yet also twilight, and she could not see distinctly. This was a manifestation made of "spiritual body" to a human being. Later, the eyes of Cleophas and his friend would be forbidden to see Jesus, even though their hearts were burning. Those who traveled with Paul to Damascus saw a light and heard a sound, but they did not see nor did they hear what the apostle saw and heard.

7. Who did Mary Magdalene thought Jesus was? John 20:15 Jesus said unto her, Woman, why do you weep? whom do you seek? She, supposing him to be the gardener, said unto him, Sir, if you have borne him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.

supposing him to be the gardener He could have been a friend, not a stranger, a disciple, not a Roman soldier or a hostile priest. Christ's way of making himself known to his people is by his word. His word applies to their souls, speaking to them comfort and healing.

8. What did Jesus say that caused Mary Magdalene to recognize him 8. What did Jesus say that caused Mary Magdalene to recognize him? John 20:16 Jesus said unto her, Mary. She turned, and said unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Teacher.

Jesus saith unto her, Mary It is to that devoted love in the way Jesus calls her name. He knew her whole past and He knew her devotion to Him. He gave her freedom from the demons that held her captive. The voice of God is always heard by the hearts of them that love Him. The presence of God felt in the utter helplessness of human woe. Mary cried, Rabboni, which is to say, Master.

9. According to the Gospel of Mark, what had Jesus done for Mary 9. According to the Gospel of Mark, what had Jesus done for Mary? Mark 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven demons.

Seven’ the numerical symbol of completeness There is no condition of human misery which Christ cannot alleviate. None is so sunk in sin that He cannot redeem them. For all in the world there is hope. None is so bad as to be beyond the reach of His cleansing power. None has wandered so far that he cannot come back.

10. Who did Jesus tell Mary Magdalene he was ascending to? John 20:17 Jesus said unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

I ascend unto my Father, and your Father The victory over death has been accomplished. This appearance on earth is an earnest return to heaven. “Unto My Father,” He now says, “and your Father.” Because He is My Father, He is also your Father, and you are My brethren. Jesus ascension into heaven will be the ascension of human nature.

11. Who did Mary Magdalene tell she had seen the Lord? John 20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

Mary Magdalene told the disciples She had seen the Lord. He had spoken these things unto her. To a woman was this honor given to be the first that saw the risen Redeemer. This was with all the marks of pleasure, joy and assurance.
