Class 1 Spring Term SCOTLAND ART LITERACY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION This term we will be doing a close study of the artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We will be finding out about his life and inspiration. The children will gather a range of examples of his work and begin to use this as inspiration for their own compositions using a range of mediums. LITERACY The first half term we will be looking at the Shakepseare play, ‘Macbeth’. The children will be finding out about the context in which the play was written and the historical facts that inspired Shakespeare to write it. They will analyse the characters and the scenes to give them a deeper understanding of the story. The children will learn the script and perform the play. They will use a range of drama techniques and speaking and listening skills. Each week we will also be looking at a grammar and punctuation skill which will be taught in a discrete lesson but linked to our current learning. MATHS This term we will cover: Ratio and proportion Control and programming Data handling Time, 12 and 24 hour clock Area and perimeter Written methods for subtraction/addition Percentages Doubling and halving decimal numbers RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Pupils will identify and explore links between the meaning of Easter for Christians and their own experience. They will look at the ways Easter is celebrated in the wider community- locally, nationally and internationally ICT This term we will use: K’Nex to programme and control a model Bee-Bots to write control instructions Begin to become familiar with VLP Film and edit our performance of Macbeth ICT to promote our film premiere by making a movie trailer using the i-pads MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE-SPANISH Pupils will join in with games and songs using actions, listen and respond to simple words, phrases, questions and stories. SCOTLAND Personal, Social and Emotional Development This term we will be all contributing to our school vision and thinking about what school means to us. We will then be looking at ‘Honesty and Appreciation’ and what it means to be honest and appreciate everything we have around us. SCIENCE This term our focus is ‘Materials’. We will be finding out about: Separating solids Filtration Dissolving Condensation Reversable and irreversable changes Evaporation Properties of materials GEOGRAPHY This term we will: Learn key cities and areas of Scotland by using a range of maps and sources. Focus on the changing economic face of farming in Scotland and make comparisons to a local farm. Music Pupils will perform with control, and an awareness of what others are playing they will read and follow notation. HOW YOU CAN HELP Your child will be finding out lots of different things about Scotland. If you have visited Scotland then share your experiences with them. Children will also need help with learning their lines for our Macbeth production and support in supplying costumes, details to follow. Children will receive half termly word work spellings and weekly times tables to practise at home. Homework will be sentence and skill linked this term. DESIGN TECHNOLOGY We will be finding out about the history and uses of tartan. The children will use a computer generated programme to design their own ‘Cockwood Tartan’. PE This term our focus will be football, the children will get an opportunity to develop teamwork and ball skills.
