CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE Strategic investment area (SIA)

Tonight’s agenda The SIA - Overview Brenda Kelley, Redevelopment Manager Affordable Housing Stacy Pethia, Housing Program Coordinator Dan Rosensweig, Habitat for Humanity Frank Stoner, Milestone Partners, and Peidmont Housing Alliance Board President Community Input, Q&A

What is a strategic investment area (sia)? The Strategic Investment Area (SIA) is an area designated by the City for targeted investment and improvement. In February 2014, the City Council adopted the Strategic Investment Area Plan and instructed City staff to implement the Plan.

What is the PURPOSE OF the SIA PLAN? “To initiate a transformational process to engage stakeholders, city staff, and members of the greater community in the future of the Strategic Investment Area.”

WHAT is the SIA PLAN DESIGNED TO DO? To provide guidance for: Future redevelopment and investment in the area; and Improvements to affordable housing, including existing public and assisted housing; and Improved connections throughout the area; and Recommended strategies for expanding employment opportunities within the SIA; and Allowing residents the opportunity to participate in the planning process.

We acknowledge the residents’ bill of rights: Resident participation At least one-for-one replacement of all affected public housing units Replacement units will be of like kind, reserved for very low-extremely low income, offered first to CRHA households Redevelopment process will support a system of economic justice

WHAT is the Purpose of SIA community talks? To provide a series of educational community meetings designed to provide important information regarding the SIA, implementing the SIA Plan and elements of the SIA Plan; and To gather input from the community; and To engage the community in the future growth and redevelopment of the neighborhood(s)
