Spanish Mythological animals BY: Joel S.A.

Nuberu  -This tiny and very dark man is a monster of Asturian origin. His appearance is always a foreigner, because he shreds crops, hence the name 'Nuberu' (when cloud and storm join). He usually wears a big hat.

LAMIA Lamia was a queen of Libya, whom Zeus loved. Hera, jealous, transformed her into a monster and killed her children. Lamia was sentenced   to be unable to close her eyes, so that she was always obsessed with the image of her dead children . Zeus gave the gift to be removed in order to rest the eyes and then put them back. Lamia was envious of other mothers and ate their children. Her body is half serpent and half a woman

Oricuerno It represents how often human beings desire to be different . Hence his appearance: a horse or deer that has a horn with which changes sex to the person who plays (and thus symbolized a new opportunity to be).

Werewolf In folklore and mythology, a werewolf is a person who is transformed into a wolf, either purposely or inadvertently, because of a curse or other external agent. He  lives in the mountains and forests

Arpía In Greek mythology, the Harpies or Harpy were beautiful winged women mainly known for constantly stealing food from Phineas before he could eat, and enforcing a punishment by Zeus. This led them to fight with the Argonauts. In later traditions were transformed into evil winged spirits with  sharp claws, which is as they are popularly known.

Basajaun This monster looks like a human , but covered with hair, with claws and a round base .He stand isBasque, but a relative of the Roman god Faunus. With him is the fear of the primitive anduntamed. .

WATER GIRLS Inhabit rivers,  springs and streams throughout Spain. They are very feminine and seductive and, unlike the mermaids have no part of a fish. Protect the female, so they are relentless with men who leave women behind to seduce. They symbolize the danger of falling into temptation, and the risks of impatience, hence the sailors who hear siren voices lost and end up drowning in the sea.

Cuélebre It's a huge snake with bat wings. It comes from the Asturian mythology and symbolizes the fear of the dark, so it is a creeping thing that creeps on the ground and lives within the earth.
