Self-Perception Theory Presented By: Danielle Samantha L. Quinto II-10 BVe
2 Truths, 1 Lie
Self Perception an identity unique to others that make us essential beings the way you think about or understand someone or something
Attitude or Behavior? BEHAVIOR ATTITUDE the way you think and feel about someone or something BEHAVIOR the way a person or animal acts or behaves
Self-perception Theory We find out how we feel by observing what we do Behavior changes attitude
Daryl Bem Daryl Bem (1965-1972) proposed the self- perception theory as an alternative to the cognitive dissonance theory in explaining how attitudes are shaped. The radical element of Bem’s theory is the hypothesis that behavior causes attitudes, as opposed to the more conventional notion that attitudes shape behaviors
Cognitive Dissonance This is the feeling of uncomfortable tension which comes from holding two conflicting thoughts in the mind at the same time. It is a psychological phenomenon which refers to the discomfort felt at a discrepancy between what you already know or believe, and new information or interpretation.
