CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

CIRCULATORY SYSTEM The group of organs and tissues that carry needed materials to cells and remove their waste products.

CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM Organs and tissues that transport essential materials to body cells and remove their waste.

CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM CARDIO: refers to the heart VASCULAR: refers to blood vessels.

The muscle that acts as the pump for the circulatory system. HEART The muscle that acts as the pump for the circulatory system.

Carry blood AWAY from the heart to various parts of the body. ARTERIES Carry blood AWAY from the heart to various parts of the body.

Carry blood FROM all parts of the body BACK to the heart VEINS Carry blood FROM all parts of the body BACK to the heart

CAPILLARIES Carry blood to and from almost all body cells and CONNECT arteries and veins.

The force of blood pushing against the walls of the blood vessels. BLOOD PRESSURE The force of blood pushing against the walls of the blood vessels.

Solids: red and white blood cells and platelets Blood is made up of: Liquid :plasma Solids: red and white blood cells and platelets

Makes up half the volume of blood Transports blood cells Plasma Liquid part of blood Makes up half the volume of blood Transports blood cells Dissolves food

Carry oxygen to all other cells in the body. RED BLOOD CELLS Carry oxygen to all other cells in the body. Carry away some waste products.

Helps destroy disease causing germs. WHITE BLOOD CELLS Helps destroy disease causing germs.

PLATELETS Small disk-shaped structures that help blood clot. Clotting helps keep you from losing too much blood when you have a cut or injury.

BOOKLET/POSTER Make a bullet list of the 6 problems affecting the circulatory system Illustrate each problem Make a bullet list of ways to care for the circulatory system (illustrate each)

ACTIVITY Describe how healthy food choices and physical activity keep the circulatory system healthy. Make a list of 5 healthy foods Make a list of 5 physical activities to keep the circulatory system healthy
