Smart Living is about … And more … Smart Water Smart Lighting Smart Traffic Smart Parking Make more informed decisions, protect city’s water supply and prevent water waste using data from detecting water pressure, temperatures and leaks Save time for maintenance crews and save fuel costs – from driving around town to find and replace broken bulbs Optimize traffic flow using traffic signals, the number of vehicles and pedestrians; Inform commuters about the next bus or train in near-real time by using digital signage Better utilization of assets, including parking spaces and enforcement staff, by providing real-time parking availability info; reduced circulation times to lower environmental impacts (pollution, noise) Smart Buildings Smart Industry Smart Environment Location/Context Based Services Optimize building electricity usage with motion sensor lights which can dim or shut off when a room is empty; Alert when there is a leaking pipe using smart meters; monitor energy use of an electric meter and alert when it reaches a specific threshold Enable easier tracking of transport and logistics flows, not only for one industry, but multi-industry (e.g., retail, oil, shipping, etc.) Monitor air quality, pollution and other weather conditions such as temperature and humidity, to optimize resource utilization and reduce the cities impact on the environment and improve the quality of life for it’s citizen Provide real-time city event info; leverage GPS locations and combine with the user profiles to find a suitable parking spot while considering the driver's sport interest, event starting time, tickets purchased/seat numbers etc. And more …

Smart Waste Management Protect Environment and provide better service 50 The waste from cities alone is already enough to fill a line of trash trucks 5,000 kilometers long every day …. 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10 5 Average Patterns of Waste Collection per Day & Hour Waste Fill-Up Patterns Waste Collection Patterns Analysis of Efficiency Collection Absence Analysis 6am 7am 8am 9am 10am 11am 12pm 1pm 2pm 3pm 2828 Source: HPE Smart Waste with HPE UIoT platform & Analytics

Smart Public Safety – Example Beijing Olympic Stadium and Financial District Efficient & dense connectivity Security Services easy to integrate Cost Deploy a wireless infrastructure for city modernization before the Olympic Games Reduce the risk of potential terrorist threats by provincial and multinational groups Increase public safety and security, including traffic monitoring Provide secure Internet access during and after the Olympic Games for visitors and citizens Consider a cost-effective alternative to digging and trenching to lay cable and minimize stirring up pollutants Source: HPE Aruba Wifi solutions

And beyond the city … to the people where they are ! 9

Smart Health Telemedicine: Virtually Bringing the Doctor to the patient Bringing healthcare professionals virtually in to the ambulance or to his home Mobile applications and tablets Cloud based storage and data handling Secure infrastructure for emergency room and ambulance Secure data, video & voice transmission over IP over 4G Enhanced productivity Improved patient care Lower cost for distinct diagnoses – treatment combinations (e.g. stroke treatment) Opportunity to start medical expertise centre to support patients transports Tele Specialists in Hospital & Medical Expertise Center Security Auditing Point of Accident Point of Care Patient Home Medical episodes Statistics Converged cloud Data Voice Video

Connected Car Safer driving through swarm intelligence and analytics Use information gathered from other vehicles on the road (the “swarm”) and from infrastructure, and pass real-time contextual information to a specific car or other road users for a better intelligent driving experience. – Sensors in the car, on the road collect information Everything (V2X) communication. – Innovative use of V2V to provide accurate contextual information to other vehicles in the same vicinity. – Information is securely communicated and aggregated with other information (weather, traffic etc) – Remotely manage millions of devices, including device discovery, configuration and management and secure connectivity – Decisions/recommen dations are made and sent back to the car(s) – In the meantime, car talk to each other : Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) or Vehicle to 11 Source: HPE Connected car with HPE Universal IoT platform

TOO MUCH DATA … TOO MANY DEVICES … TOO MANY APPS Surge in data requires a new approach for speed, agility, and security Data explosion IT complexity 1 trillion The number of apps to manage is rapidly increasing By 2020*, with IoT and 5G, trillion applications exchanging zettabytes of digital data over billion devices *20.8 billion IoT endpoints predicted to be in service by 2020

Security Concerns and Opportunities Who is the responsible authority and are they prepared ?

Security concerns and opportunities … at Home Who should we blame? What is the solution? Source: HPE Survey 14

Usability Concerns and Opportunities Usability is a measure of how easy it is to use something: How easy will the use of the smart platforms be for typical users to understand, learn, and operate e.g., “user-friendliness” It is also “...the extent to which a product can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use.” [ISO Definition (9241-11)] Leapfrogging is not the answer. A well thought out plan is mandatory. It will deepen our understanding of technology and possibly lead to patent developments.

Accessibility Concerns and Opportunities An extension of inclusion movement About 25 million Nigerians have at least one form of disability The potential of Smart platforms is accessibility Content must be organized for everyone to navigate and access Design must follow universal principles Interfaces must be robust to receive diverse forms of input Architecture must be resilient and flexible enough for everyone to participate effectively and efficiently without limitations in functionalities.
